Several big news from the beijing olympics 2008 today and it’s worth remembering as we saw several famous athletes achieving what others had always thought IMPOSSIBLE.
1. Michael Phlelps wins 8 gold medals in one single olympics. The previous record was own by Mark Split with 7 gold in the 1972 Munich Olympics Games. Phelps has now 14 gold and 2 bronze medals from the olympics alone.
2. Rafael Nadal wins olympic singles gold medal and will surpass Roger Federer as the new world number 1. It’s a bit sad to see Roger “Fedex” handing over the throne but Rafeal’s performance this year has simply been superb.
3. Usain “Thunder” Bolt from Jamaica shocked the world when he wins the olympics men’s 100m final with a world record pace of 9.69s. We’ll get to see him in the 200m finals for sure as he will attempt to break Micheal Johnson world record of 19.32s.
4. 41 year old Dara Torres shows us age doesn’t matter when it comes to swimming and did it in style by winning silver in both 100m freestyle and Women’s 4 x 100m Medley Relay.
Sportsmen are a great source of motivation as they are among the brave ones who dare to dream and fight to reach their goals. Perhaps it’s also a good time to consider which sport to play as well?
After reading those achievements (I’m sure there are more), we probably have to start asking ourselves this question next time we think we can’t make our goals a reality:
Impossible, what impossible?
