Want to convert text files, doucuments, spreadsheets, emails and websites into pdf files? You can with this freeware application known as doPDF.
First you have to accept the fact that all these type of application must install a virtual printer. This virtual printer is needed to act as the output to which you can tell the application (Word, Excel, whatever) to “print” (in true terms, it’s actually saving) your file into pdf.
doPDF applies the same concept here. doPDF installs itself as a virtual PDF printer driver so after a successful installation, it will appear in your Printers and Faxes list.
Once doPDF is installed:
1. Open a document (with Microsoft Word, WordPad, NotePad or any other software)
2. Choose Print and select doPDF
3. It will ask you where to save the PDF file, type in a filename and press OK.
4. When finished saving, the PDF file will be automatically opened in your default PDF viewer.
Here’s a video demonstrating how to use it:
I used to be a user of pdfcreator, but pdfcreator has a big file size since it uses ghostscript to do the pdf conversion and is bundled together with the download. doPPF is small and doesn’t use ghostscript in comparison.
Get it here.
