Just follow these steps to get Windows 7 gadgets working again even when UAC has been turned off. UAC was introduced in Windows Vista to protect users from installing and running malicious software but Windows Gagdgets continues to run perfectly even when UAC has been turned off. This has changed in Windows. By default, if you turned off UAC in Windows 7, Gadgets will stop working but there’s always a way around that.
1. Go to Start –> Search and type regedit
2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Sidebar\Settings
3. Right Click on the right pan of the registry editor and Create A New DWORD(of 32 Bit Value). Name it AllowElevatedProcess and set its value as 1 (both without quotes).
4. Close the registry. Done!
