Many of the newest Windows games will take full advantage of the next-generation graphics technology in Windows Vista called DirectX 10. DirectX 10 provides an incredibly detailed experience for gamers of every type. DirectX 10 in Windows Vista delivers advanced graphics technology never before seen that will enable game creators to increase the game’s level of realism, enhancing details and complexity in gaming worlds, apply effects like dynamic lighting and weather. But unfortunately, DirectX 10 is only available for Windows Vista. How about Windows XP?
There was a project titled Alky created by guys from the “falling leaf systems” whose aims were to port DirectX 10 onto Windows XP. Although the project Alky is now closed and it’s now open sourced, people have reported successfully using Alky to port and play Directx 10 only games like Halo 2 and Shadowrun on Windows XP.
