With companies slowly emerging out of recession, consumer oriented mobile phones have propped up in markets. The number of mobile phones making it to the markets has been multiplying at a rapid rate. The growing trend this year seems to be to provide business to consumer and consumer to consumer oriented products – with strategies being aligned to these goals. Gartner, a technology research company brought out a list of technologies which would make an impact in the current fiscal year.
Top three technological trends to look out for this year :
Bluetooth has two new versions this year. Bluetooth 3 and Bluetooth 4. Bluetooth 3 will use the 802.11 standard and will provide better compliance to existing standards, enable faster data rates and provide excellent transmission facilities. Bluetooth 4 will implement a new low energy level mode, enabling connections to external peripheral devices and sensors. The design goal of both these versions is to extend battery life and to provide a greater means of security. Gartner estimates a new line of specialized products will make it to the market. Bluetooth 4 especially will help companies manufacture sensor equipped devices specifically for fitness, healthcare and environment related sectors.
2. The Mobile Web
Globalisation has meant that there is a greater use of the internet, and with greater accessibility there is a great potential to provide enhanced services. Wider use of the internet meant that all devices nowadays fundamentally are boxed with an internet browser. Nearly 60 percent of the phones manufactured in and around Europe have some sophisticated method of accessing the internet, is HTML enabled and comes with cool add-ins (web-browser is inclusive). This current trend will lead to a market where smartphones providing medium and high range utilities will harness the power of the internet and provide business to customer and business to consumer applications wirelessly through the mobile device. Social networking especially will see a viable surge in the market, with trends showing the likelihood of increased integration of social websites, the mobile web is bound to play an increasing role in market strategies.
Touch screens are the in-thing right now. The mobile devices that are being released so far, all have come equipped with either a TFT screen or a Capacitative touchscreen display. Touch-enabled devices are in vogue – mainly because they provide enhanced user interactivity a trend that is expected to grow as the year passes by.
